Kyoto University Bhutan Mission 2015 (Sep 2015)


Kyoto University Bhutan Mission 2015, formed of 10 students from Kyoto University Alpine Club (KUAC) and AACK, enjoyed the "Snow-man trek", and have safely returned in Japan. They have a meeting to share the feeling of this fruitful trip.

Condolences

Sep 2015

Minoru Matsuo (1936.7.4 - 2015.5.9) passed away.
Prof. Matsuo passed away in May 9th 2015 at the age of 78. He was the leader of the Kyoto University Bhutan Expedition 1969, that was under the supervision of the general leader, the late Prof Takeo Kuwabara. The party arrived Bhutan in September 1969 and stayed till February 1970. The members took the clear photo of Gangkhar Puensum (7570m), the highest mountanin of Bhutan. Prof. Matsuo later turned to become the president of Nagoya University. It is one of the best national universities of Japan and is known to have produced 6 Nobel Prize winners. There was a remembrance event of Prof Matsuo that was held in Nagoya in September 17 2015.

Nov 2014

AACK co-hosted photo exhibitions titled "Mountains and Wildlife in Yunnan China: snowy mountains and the snub-nosed monkeys" from November 2014 to January 2015. A wide variety of exhibits - aerial shoots of Meili-Xueshan, Yunnan snub-nosed monkeys, magnificent Kawagebo and Metsumo Peak - captivated over 500 visitors.
